I won’t lie- I’m not the biggest fan of fall. I’m more of a spring/summer kind of gal, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the great things about fall. I do like to bundle up in a cozy sweater, and you definitely won’t get an argument from me about the beauty of nature in the fall. In fact, that’s what I’d like to talk about here- making the most of the beauty of fall.
Go on a nature walk or a drive in the mountains to enjoy the spectacular fall foliage, but don’t leave all that fall beauty outdoors- bring some of it right into your home. Home decorating accents are an inexpensive and creative way to keep your home decor interesting, and incorporating the seasons is a great way to change things up and make things look current. Each season has its special beauty, which should absolutely be celebrated!
There are many charming ways to bring fall into your home, and gourd vases are a really fabulous idea. They are very easy to do, and you can let your creativity shine in the way you choose to group together colors and sizes. The best part is that you don’t need any special tools or supplies to do this project, and you won’t have to splurge to get interesting and pretty gourds and flowers. You can make one vase to stand alone, or make a group display. Or make a few and show them off in different parts of the room.
Here’s what you do: Choose the gourds you want to use. A variety of colors, textures, heights, and shapes will look the most interesting. With a kitchen knife, carefully cut off the top of the gourd, and then scoop out the inside using the same knife, a spoon, or an ice cream scoop. If your gourd is tall with a thin neck, you need only to scoop out the top section- don’t make yourself crazy digging all the way through. And that’s it! Choose flowers, leaves, and branches that will complement the gourds and then just arrange them creatively as you like. Easy, right? And gorgeous as is, but if you just can’t help yourself, or you just have to add some glitz, go ahead and paint the gourds with a metallic spray paint.
