I am the queen of belated birthday wishes. In fact, I feel like belated birthday cards were made up with me in mind. I’m not a bad friend or relative- I really want to wish all those special people well on their special days, but somehow I’m always just a few days too late. So I sort of missed National Flip Flop day on June 19. I knew it was Flip Flop day, and I really wanted to post about it because flip flops make me happy- they are sort of the quintessential summer item- and I wanted to spread the good feelings. But, as usual, things got away from me and here we are a few days later.
Good thing I believe it’s never too late! After all, it’s only the very beginning of summer and we have plenty of flip flop wearing days ahead of us, so Happy National Flip Flop Day, everyone! Used to be that flip flops were worn only to the beach, or to prevent nasty infections from gym showers. But now, you can wear flip flops almost anywhere, and you can buy them at any price point, so there are flip flops for everyone. But how fun would it be to create your own flip flops to reflect your very own style and personality? And let’s also mention that you can do this for pennies, and sometimes even using stuff you have around the house anyway. There are some pretty great flip flop DIY’s and I’ve put together a list of some of the ones that I think are especially fabulous, easy, and inexpensive to make:
- Make these braided flip flops in the color of your choice, or make them even more versatile by going multi-color!
- Who says flip flops are casual footwear? Make this bling-y version and go glam!
- I love the way some colorful thread can take a basic flip flop to another level.
- You can literally wear summer when you create flower flip flops. Here’s another way to go that’s just as fresh.
These are just a few of the many flip flop projects that you can find, but you don’t even have to limit yourself to what others have done- use your own imagination and creativity for your very own flip flop fashion!
