It’s good to take pride in your home- you want to feel good about your decor, including your furniture, your wall colors, and your art. You want the temperature to be comfortable all year- not too hot, not too cold. And you also want it to smell good. You don’t want a heavy, perfumed smell in your house; you want it to smell good in a way that’s subtle and pleasant, and here are a few good ways to make that happen. The good news is that none of these cost a lot, either!

1. Toilet paper roll:

Put a few drops of essential oil on the inside of the toilet paper roll and your bathroom smells fresh at all times without spraying artificial chemical sprays.

2. Cook up a good scent:

Simmer some water with cinnamon, cloves, citrus, or aromatic herbs in any combination to infuse your house with a homey, inviting scent.

3. Tea bags:

Stow a few herbal tea bags in drawers and closets to keep them smelling fresh. The tea absorbs unpleasant odors and and the flavoring of the tea releases pleasant scents.

4. Freshen mattresses:

Stale smelling mattresses can affect the overall freshness of your bedroom. Once every month or two, sprinkle the mattress with baking soda, let it sit for 30 minutes, then vacuum. This is an easy way to freshen your bedroom.

5. Half a lemon:

Place half a lemon in the fridge to give it a fresh smell and prevent food odors from the refrigerator from overpowering the kitchen.

6. Plants:

Plants are not only a strong decorating element, but they also help purify the air. Some plants, like eucalyptus, even give off a really good smell, too.

7. Dryer sheets:

Dryer sheets give off a clean, fresh smell. Place them in drawers, cabinets, suitcases, and even in your garbage can.

8. Fresh carpets:

Fresh smelling carpets freshen the whole room. Sprinkle rugs and carpets with baking soda and a few drops of essential oil. Let is sit for a while and then vacuum.

9. Essential oil diffuser:

Essential oil diffusers make your space smell good naturally. Choose essential oils that help you relax or help you focus, depending on the room. Read this post for helpful information on essential oils.

10. Coffee beans and tea lights:

Fill a small jar with coffee beans and nestle a tea light in them. Light it for a warm aroma.

11. Scented candles:

Scented candles scent a room and help create mood, but they smell good even when they’re unlit, so you can just use them as decorating items that freshen the air. Use them, unlit of course, in closets and cabinets, as air fresheners.

12. Open a window:

If it’s not too hot or too cold, open your windows whenever you can to let in fresh air.
