We’re all trying to save money, and for me the killer is beauty products. Who else considers Sephora to be heaven? And am I the only one who goes into Walgreen’s or Target for just a tube of toothpaste and walk out with a heavy bag of beauty products and a much lighter wallet? Well, we’re just going to have to get that habit under control, then! Luckily, it shouldn’t be too hard for all us beauty suckers, because there are a lot of cool tricks that make you feel like you’re splurging when you’re not. Check these out:

  1. Coat lips in Vaseline and leave on for 5 minutes. Then scrub gently with a soft toothbrush for soft and smooth lips.
  2. Use that Vaseline to remove your makeup, too.
  3. Clean an old mascara wand and use it to separate lashes.
  4. Get rid of puffy eyes by propping your head up on pillows and placing chilled spoons, chamomile tea bags, or chilled cucumber slices on lids for 10 minutes.
  5. Microwave lotion before you use it and enjoy a spa-like indulgence.
  6. Exfoliate with a homemade scrub: Make a paste out of brown sugar and honey and buff until your skin is soft.
  7. Don’t spend extra money on shaving cream; lather up with conditioner. It softens the hair on your legs, which makes it easier to shave, and moisturizes your skin.
  8. No need for fancy brow gels. Instead, spritz an old toothbrush or clean mascara wand with hairspray and brush your brows into shape.
  9. A sprinkle of baby powder does the job of dry shampoo for a lot less, and by actually washing your hair less often, you’ll make your shampoo last longer, too.
  10. Go longer between pedis by scrubbing your feet every day in the shower. After you dry off, moisturize with creamy lotion.
  11. Use plain old vitamin E oil instead of expensive eye creams to get rid of wrinkles.
  12. Make your beauty products last longer by replacing lids and covers after you use them. You’ll prevent them from drying out too fast and exposing them to bacteria.

I can’t promise that I’ll never buy any more fancy beauty products- I’m sure I will from time to time- and that’s fine. Everyone deserves a treat once in a while. But I’ll be using these tricks in my regular beauty routine. I’ll still look great, and my wallet will thank me!
