Do you pay attention to how much water you drink? Not that I think you should become obsessive about it, but you should make sure you drink enough every day. How much is enough? That’s a good question, and one that has no one right answer. Some say you need eight 8 ounce glasses each day, others say half your weight in ounces, and then there are lots of other answers you could come up with. The important thing is to keep your body hydrated, even in the winter when you might not feel so thirsty. In fact, once you’re feeling thirsty, you’re already a little dehydrated, so it’s a good idea to have a glass of water or water bottle around at all times so you can sip at it regularly throughout the day.
So while there’s no clear answer to exactly how much water you need to drink, there are plenty of clear reasons why you should be drinking a lot of it. Here are some of the great things water does for your body:
1. Raises your metabolism:
That’s what they say!
2. Helps you cut back on calories:
Drinking water and eating foods that contain a lot of water can make you feel full and satisfied, so you’ll be less likely to overeat. Also, drinking calorie-free water is a smart alternative to high-calorie sweetened drinks.
3. Helps with healthy digestion:
Drinking plenty of water prevents constipation. Including lots of fiber in your diet also helps things along.
4. Makes you feel good:
Mild dehydration can affect your mood, so it makes sense that staying well hydrated helps keep you feeling happy.
5. Prevent and treat headaches:
Many headaches are caused by dehydration, so staying hydrated can help prevent those types of headaches. If you do get a headache, drink some water and see if that helps- if you’re dehydrated, it just might do the trick.
6. Maintains balance of body fluids:
Your body is 60% water and you need to drink to keep it that way.
7. Nourishes muscle:
Having healthy muscle keeps you at the top of your performance.
8. Reduces the risk of bladder cancer:
Urinating regularly helps flush out your bladder.
9. Promotes kidney health:
This is important because your kidneys work to cleanse your body of toxins. Drinking lots of water can also help prevent kidney stones and UTI’s.
10. Makes your skin glow:
It’s so easy, and it’s true! Well hydrated skin glows and looks less wrinkly. And when you drink water you help your body flush out the toxins that can cause acne.
11. Gives you energy and helps you focus:
Drinking water is an easy way to stay at the top of your game.
