We all have our days- the ones when it seems nothing can go right. It feels pretty horrible, but the good news is that it’s usually temporary- tomorrow will be better. But why wait for tomorrow? Here are some ways you can help yourself get over a bad day:
- Call a friend:
Call a friend who can make you laugh and take your mind off the day you’re having. Or just call a friend to catch up and connect.
- Go for a walk:
Moving your body gets the endorphins- the feel-good hormones- pumping, so taking a walk can help you feel better. And walking outside is even better, since sunlight can cheer you up, too.
- Eat some comfort food:
Okay, it’s not a good idea to regularly eat our feelings, but when you’re having a particularly bad day, a bowl of ice cream never hurt anyone.
- Watch a movie:
Watching a movie can really help; watch a sad movie and have a good cry, or watch a funny movie and laugh.
- Take a bath:
Light some candles and fill a bath with nice smelling bath salts and have a relaxing soak.
- Do some deep breathing:
Set a timer for one minute and close your eyes. Focus just on breathing in and out and you’ll feel calmer.
- Color:
Yes, adults can color and it’s actually soothing and grounding. Google for some mandalas to color, print, and get to work.
- Write a gratitude list:
Sometimes reminding yourself of what’s good is a really effective way to feel happier.
- Bake cookies:
Is there anything more comforting than the smell of fresh-baked cookies?
- Get a mani-pedi:
Sit down and allow yourself to be pampered for an hour.
