Who can honestly say she’s not feeling the stress? Life is busy and chaotic and stressful! That’s the beauty of it all, though it can also be too much at times. A long, relaxing vacation would help, but that’s usually not possible, especially not in the moment. Sometimes all you can get is a quick breather- and sometimes that’s all you need to get you ready to jump right back into the madness. Here are some ways to get some quick relief:
- Green tea: Besides a cup of tea being soothing, green tea contains L-Theanine, which helps you relax.
- Dark chocolate: Eating chocolate to relax hardly needs an explanation, but eating dark chocolate to control stress really is science, since it contains elements that help regulate cortisol, a stress hormone.
- A spoonful of honey: Eating honey reduces inflammation in the brain, which helps with depression and anxiety.
- Meditation: Just a quick meditation will help you to feel grounded and relaxed when all you have is a few minutes.
- Deep breaths: Therapeutic breathing lowers blood pressure and heart rate. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth 10 times to feel more relaxed.
- Hand massage: Rubbing on pressure points on your hand relieves stress in your shoulders, neck, and scalp. Use lotion and start on the area between your thumb and index finger.
- Walk in the sun: Sunlight and a little movement will boost your mood.
- Music: Listening to music you like can lower your heart rate.
- Chewing gum: Besides the fresh breath pick-me-up you get from minty gum, chewing it relieves anxiety and reduces stress.
- Laughing: Laughing definitely lightens the moment, plus it lowers cortisol and boosts endorphins.
Next time you’re stressed, take a few minutes and try some of these tricks that will have you feeling more relaxed in no time!
