I don’t want to complain. I want to stay upbeat, even though I am soooooo sick of winter already. I’m tired of the cold and the snow, I’m tired of the dark mornings, and I’m tired of my winter clothes, but I’m not complaining here. No, I’m not. I going to tell you what I plan to do about how I’m feeling these days: I’m going to give myself a boost with a winter wardrobe pick-me-up!

Sure, I would love to get out the flip-flops and throw on a tank top and short, flirty skirt. I am so ready for that right now! But it’s just not happening now and it doesn’t look like it will be for a while yet, and I’m okay with it because I’m excited about perking up my usual winter wear. The best part is that I plan to do it without spending too much money. Here are some of the ideas I’m planning to pull off:

  • Before laying out any money, I might ask a friend if I can borrow something for a while. Winter’s been here a long time now and I bet I’m not the only one whose wardrobe needs a boost, so I might even suggest we swap something. We can do a temporary swap, or make it permanent if we both agree to part with our own stuff. Win-win instant closet boost!
  • Sometimes you just need to buy something new and nothing else will do. The good news is that now is the perfect time of year to score a great deal at the store. Put together end-of-season and the upcoming President’s Day holiday and you’re almost guaranteed to get something great on sale.
  • Second-hand stores can be a treasure trove of great buys. The prices are more reasonable than regular retail and the merchandise is often unique. This can be a great resource for a special mid-winter wardrobe add-on.
  • Some new makeup always puts me in a good mood. A new lipstick or eye shadow color can add some pizzazz to your usual winter look. Try a bright springy color to help perk you up. Oh- and nail polish, of course!
  • Accessories are another way to instantly give new flair to the old stand-by’s. Scarves, belts, or fun necklaces don’t have to cost a lot, yet they can really work wonders in transforming an outfit you’ve worn a million times.
  • While not technically a wardrobe item, some perfume can help, too. A bottle of perfume can get pricey, but it will last a long time, so you might want to go for it, anyway. Choose a fresh-smelling fragrance that makes you think of spring and see how far this easy fix will take you!

We’re in the home stretch and pretty soon we will be sporting those flip-flops. So hang in there and try these ideas to get you through the next few weeks.
